Welcome

We love June • In Sweden there are more than 12,000 drinking songs, many of which will be enthusiastically rendered by Swedes, old and young, during this month. Their national day is 6 June, but that’s nothing compared to the celebration of midsummer. There are bonfires, the wearing of floral crowns and walking barefoot through morning dew (helps you stay healthy apparently). Seven types of flowers are picked in silence and put under the pillows of the romantically unattached. There is wild dancing and lavish feasts of pickled herring and strawberries. Makes Wimbledon seem a bit tame, all things considered.

Chase the rainbow • Celebrate Pride month with Michael Perry’s colourful container that’s sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face

Expert ’s choice Calendulas • These fast-growing blooms will fill your pots and borders with colour until late autumn, says Graham Rice

The Full Monty • Cultivating statuesque topiary is an art that demands dedication, says Monty – who admits that he’s not beyond a spot of cheating

Have your say • The view from your side of the fence
