An amazing adventure of animal discovery
Every corner of our planet, from frigid mountain peaks, to vast deserts, lush forests, and the deepest, darkest ocean, is a place incredible animals call home - a place where they live out their exciting and unexpected lives.
Through the Animal Kingdom invites you on a journey through these habitats to discover the secret lives of the animals that live there. Track a bald eagle as it soars majestically over the Rocky Mountains, follow migrating wildebeests across the Serengeti as they attempt a dangerous river crossing under the watchful eye of hungry predators, or trace the tracks of the solitary amur leopard - the rarest cat on Earth - as it silents stalks its prey through the icy forests of the Siberian wilderness.
Through the Animal Kingdom is the first installment in a new series aiming to reinvent early reference for a new generation of reader, and is perfect for adventurous animal lovers anywhere.

Gr 3-5-This geographical tour of 13 animal habitats spans the globe, from the Arctic tundra, the Rocky Mountains, the Galapagos Islands, and the Amazon rain forest to the Sahara Desert, the Serengeti, Siberia, Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and Antarctica. Harvey's short but richly worded passages merge descriptions of the habitats with information about the animals found there: Galapagos turtles may live longer than 100 years, and some monkeys live their entire lives without touching the ground. The intriguing trip concludes with a set of pages recapping the many animals spotted along the journey. Complementing the vivid text, Pepper's impressive collages incorporate many well-focused photographs and draw attention to the variations in wildlife and their environments. Some animals are identified with labels or accompanied by captions. Sturdy exterior binding sharply contrasts with the lesser-quality interior page stitching, which may not hold up over time. The amount of material on each region is limited, though the volume gives a quick, effective overview of the wildlife found all over the world. VERDICT A fun, casual read for children who are interested in exploring the animal kingdom, and a worthy supplement to world geography lessons.-Lynn Vanca, Freelance Librarian, Akron
